VMO-6

Okinawa (1970)

After a tour at N.A.S. Memphis, Tn., as an instuctor, I volunteered to return to the Republic of S.Viet-Nam. Upon arrival in Okinawa I was told I'd had two tours, and others had had none, so I was to be stationed with VMO-6 at M.C.A.S. Futenma, Okinawa. I was promoted to Gunny while there. It was an enjoyable tour with a number of T.A.D.'s to N.A.S. Atsugi, Japan for duty as the VMO-6 "Fuji Detachment." We'd take approximately four OV-10's ("Bronco's") to fly support for the Marines infantry training at Mt. Fuji.

In early 1961 I transferred to HML-367 which was just returning from in-country to Okinawa. I enjoyed that tour also. It was a UH-1E ("Huey") squadron.

I apologize for the condition of the slides. They have deteriorated over the years. Most of the slides from the air were taken by a pilot of VMO-6. He was a 1stLt., but I can't remember his name. If he happens across this web-site, and contacts me, I'll be glad to give him credit for the photos. There are other photos that were taken by ex-Cpl. (as he likes to call himself) Charlie Marsh. Charlie came across me on the internet, and we've stayed in contact since. As far as the ex-Cpl. goes........we all know there's no such thing as "ex" that pertains to Marines that have served.

If any VMO-6er's from this time frame (1970) has any photos to contribute, contact me and we'll get them on the pages.
